Geo Location Clock-In for Salons: GPS Attendance Without Tracking Staff All Day

    By Adalace··4 min read

Salon payroll fights are almost never about the rate. They're about the punch. Someone says they walked in at 8:58. First client was at 9:00 and the color was still being mixed at 9:12. Someone clocked in from a parking lot that isn't yours. Someone forgot to clock out and now the timesheet is fiction.

A binder doesn't fix that. A GPS app that follows people around all day creates a different fight. They won't install it, or they'll fight you on privacy, and you still won't have a clean record.

Adalace geo clock-in is attendance, not a tracking bracelet. Staff punch Clock in, Break, and Clock out in the same Adalace they already use. The phone sends GPS only at that moment. We check it against a geofence around the salon. On-site punches go through. If they're off-site, location is off, or GPS is fuzzy, they still punch (after they say why) and Attendance flags it for a manager.

    How the punch works

They open Adalace on their phone. A timer runs while they're on the clock and holds still on an unpaid break. There's no second time-clock login.

Location is a signal, not a lockout. Inside the fence, nothing extra happens. Away from work, they still punch so the shift isn't stranded. They say why. It shows as Away from work. You see it on Attendance instead of finding a ghost shift two weeks later.

That matters on a salon floor. People run out for color, grab lunch, cover another location, or work in a basement where GPS dies. If the app refuses the punch, you're missing data. If it accepts everything with no flag, you're paying fake hours. We record the punch and queue the exception.

GPS does not run all day. Close the page, nothing is saved. Exact coordinates get deleted after your retention period. After that we remember that they clocked in, not the street they were standing on.

What you see as a manager

Attendance is the record of what was punched. It is not payroll, and we don't label it payable hours. Payroll can use the export later without rewriting history.

You get staff totals (who's on the clock, paid hours, unpaid breaks, what needs a look), a shift log of every punch, a per-person log so you're not scrolling a group feed, date presets for today through a custom range, and an exception queue for off-site, missing location, missing clock-out, and broken breaks.

Staff can't quietly rewrite a closed shift. They request a change: new times and a reason. You approve or reject. Approve applies the times. Reject leaves the original. Either way, the original punch stays in the audit history.

You can also correct times yourself, add a shift nobody punched, mark a note as reviewed without changing hours, and export a CSV. Missing clock-outs go to Correct times. They don't get cleared with a sticky note.

Why this is a salon problem, not an office problem

Labor is physical and it's booked against a person in a chair. Late isn't "traffic." It's a guest waiting. Booth renters and employees often share a building, so "who was actually here" is a money question.

It protects staff too. A fair record beats a manager's memory of who "always comes in late." One geofence around the business. Not a trail of their evening.

If you're comparing staff tools, put this next to commissions, roles, and multi-location on the features list. Ada can still take staff commands and finish tasks. Clock-in is the human attendance layer under that.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How does geo clock-in work in a salon?

Staff tap Clock in, Clock out, or Break in Adalace. The phone reports GPS only then. We check it against a geofence around the salon. On-site is quiet. Off-site or unclear still records after they give a reason, and Attendance flags it.

Can they clock in from home?

They can punch. It won't look like a normal on-site shift. It's flagged Away from work, they have to say why, and a manager sees it. Same if location is off or GPS is junk.

Does GPS follow them all day?

No. Only when they punch. Coordinates are deleted after your retention period.

    Is this payroll?

No. It's when they started, took an unpaid break, and left. Exports say recorded attendance, not payable hours.

Can staff change their own hours?

No. They request a change on a closed shift. You approve or reject. The original punch stays either way.
